Afghanistan is planning an ambitious bid to host the 2038 FIFA World Cup as part of its national development plan.
The country has for the past years been plagued with armed conflict, civil unrest, crime, terrorism, and kidnapping. Nevertheless, the government, via the Afghanistan Football Federation, is planning to transform the country through football.
According to the President of the Afghanistan Football Federation, Mohammad Yousef Kargar, this move is part of a 50-year development plan where the country will host several games including the coveted World Cup and the Olympic Games.

He said this will draw many tourists from all four corners of the earth to Afghanistan to experience the beautiful culture and destinations that the country has to offer. Mr. Kargar believes that this will eventually change the negative perception that people have of Afghanistan and also boost the country’s economy.
In line with this, the government is planning to build a new ultra-modern stadium called the ‘B0mb Arena’ where the stadium will be b0mb-proof in case some stiff-necked recalcitrants decide to cause trouble during the hosting of the World Cup.
“Hosting the FIFA Men’s World Cup is very important to us and we will do everything possible to make it happen. We know some of our citizens can be troublesome and that is why we intend to put up b0mb-proof stadia to beef up our security when the time comes,” Mr. Kargar said.
He added, “Afghanistan is a very beautiful and peaceful country and we want the whole world to witness that. The West has tried everything within its power to paint us black. This is why we want to redeem our image by hosting the 2038 World. It will be the most beautiful and amazing World Cup ever staged on the surface of the earth. If FIFA gives us its trust by letting us host the World Cup, football enthusiasts will find an unforgettable experience when they visit Afghanistan for the tournament.”
In the face of this, some media houses are unwilling to send their reporters to go and cover the World Cup should Afghanistan win the bid to host the event. According to them, it feels strange that Afghanistan is promising an unforgettable experience.
According to them, they believe the word unforgettable could mean different things; and knowing Afghanistan and what the country is capable of, an unforgettable experience could only be negative and not something worthwhile.
