In their bid to curb unemployment in the country, the National Association of Unemployed Graduates (NAUG) in Nigeria has employed a secretary to perform both administrative and secretarial duties at the Association’s newly acquired office at Lokogoma, Abuja.
The group, made up of highly educated and skilled individuals who have not been able to find jobs, made this known in a press conference held earlier today.
According to the President of the group, Nicholas Awolowo – an Engineering graduate from the Ekiti State University, this move by the association is to ease the burden on the government by creating employment for members of the association. He said employing a secretary at this time will also provide them with the needed administrative support to function as a body and champion its cause of pressing the government to provide them with jobs.
Mr. Awolowo averred that even though the association was formed to put pressure on the government to create employment for the unemployed in the country, they also believe they can use their acquired skills to help one another till the government finds them something meaningful to do.

“We hope that the President creates employment for us so that we can put our skills to good use. Until then, we can only assist one another till we all get employed by reputable entities. That is why we have taken the bold step to hire the services of a secretary. Her remuneration and other allowances have all been discussed with her and she is expected to commence work next week,” the President of the association said.
In an exclusive interview with News Yard, the newly employed secretary, Mrs. Chioma Chukwuka, a graduate of the prestigious Valley View University (VVU) in Ghana, said she is more than happy to be employed by the association. According to her, she believes that this employment presents a perfect opportunity for her to meaningfully put her skills and education to use.
“I am grateful to the National Association of Unemployed Graduates for offering me this wonderful opportunity. This offer has given me hope and a sense of purpose. At long last, I can use my education and skills in a meaningful way. I hold a Master’s Degree in Organisational Development and ever since I completed school in 2013, I haven’t had a job. I was always depressed but I thank the Almighty that finally, I have landed myself a job,” the newly employed secretary declared.
