A 38-year-old man received the shock of his life when he was sacked from the banking hall of a Kumasi-based bank when he tried to deposit Fifty Ghana Pesewas (GH₵0.50p) in his bank account.

The man, a trader by profession, walked into the bank (name withheld) to deposit money into his savings account which has been idle for some months. However, luck was not on his side as the teller got furious and asked him to leave the banking hall because there was no way she was going to accept the GH₵0.50p deposit.

According to the man known as Prince Amoateng, he initially thought the teller was joking but only realized the seriousness of the matter when she instructed the security man to drag him out of the banking hall.

Narrating his ordeal, Mr. Amoateng said the teller told him that GH₵0.50p was too small an amount to deposit and such, cannot go ahead and process the transaction for him.

When asked why he decided to deposit just GH₵0.50p into the account, the victim averred that he has been out of business for some months which makes it very difficult for him to come by money. He said it is the little that he’s got that he decided to save because he believes in the saying “Little drops of water make a mighty ocean.”

“I do not make much money ever since I lost my job as a trader. I try and save the little I get from my kpakpakpa movement because I have faith that I will bounce back on my feet, hence trying to make good use of every pesewa that I earn. I need to save to purchase some items for my business and If I don’t save, I will remain where I am,” he said.

Touching on the incident, Mr. Prince Amoateng noted that it took him a week to save the GH₵0.50p and to avoid the temptation of spending it, he decided to keep it at the bank where he knows it will be safe.

Ranting on about the unfair treatment meted out to him, he said he would take the bank on and make them pay for what they have done to him.

When News Yard reached out to the bank for a comment, the Branch Manager refused to comment, saying they will issue a statement at the right time when it becomes necessary.
