The Minister for Roads and Highways and the Member of Parliament (MP) for Atiwa West, Hon. Kwasi Amoako-Attah, has found himself at the receiving end of the very problem that he is responsible for addressing.
After failing to repair or even temporarily fix the potholes on the Accra-Tema motorway, the Minister personally experienced the consequences when his car tyre got damaged by a pothole while using the expressway.
The incident occurred yesterday afternoon when the honourable Minister was driving his luxurious car to attend a high-level meeting in Accra to discuss the country’s infrastructure developments with some foreign investors.
According to eyewitnesses, the Minister’s driver was skillfully manoeuvring his way around the maze of potholes, when he eventually came across one that was unavoidable and had to drive through it – causing the tyre to burst.
“The Hon. Minister who was already late for the meeting got out from the car in a state of disbelief, throwing his hands in frustration and rage,” an eyewitness recounted.

Filled with anger, the Road Minister has subsequently written to the President, Nana Addo Danquah Akuffo-Addo, demanding compensation for the incident.
According to a source close to the Minister who spoke to News Yard on condition of anonymity, Honourable Kwasi Amoako-Attah has requested that the state pays him a sum of GH₵50,000.
He said, “Out of this amount, GH₵10,000 will be allocated for the purchase of a new tyre for his V8. Additionally, GH₵15,000 will be used to buy Aboniki and Deep Heat to treat his waist pains caused by driving through the pothole-riddled motorway. The remaining GH₵25,000 will then be pocketed by the Minister as compensation for the emotional distress endured.”
Our source indicated that the Minister believes this is a clear violation of his fundamental human rights as a top-ranking Ghanaian citizen. He has, therefore, vowed never to use the Accra-Tema motorway again for safety reasons due to its deteriorating state.
